THE CONSIDERED ARRANGEMENT
A seasonal floral practise, in Naples.
Created by Nelsa Bross, trained in Kado Sensyo Ikenobo under Sensei Margy Metzler
The flowers are only part of the arrangement.
The rest has been growing inside you for years.
Every arrangement begins long before the flowers are chosen.
Long before we learn the principles of design, we have already been shaped by place.
Perhaps it was the wide horizon of a dry landscape. A coastline where the wind never rested. A grandmother’s garden.
The ordered geometry of a city. The quality of light through a childhood window.
These places quietly teach us what beauty feels like.
In this workshop, flowers become the language through which those memories find expression.
This is not about recreating someone else’s arrangement.
It is about discovering your own
A Different Way of Learning Flowers
A considered arrangement begins with attention.
The principles of floral design offer structure, line, balance, movement, proportion and the expressive power of space.
Within that structure is something far more personal: your own way of seeing.
Every participant brings a different life with them, shaped by different landscapes, memories and stories. No two arrangements should ever be the same.
The goal is not perfection. The goal is authenticity.
The Foundation
My floral practice is grounded in the principles of Kado Sensyo Ikenobo, where I trained under Sensei Margy Metzler.
That training taught me to see differently, to understand the quiet relationship between line and movement, proportion and restraint, fullness and space (ma).
These principles remain the foundation of everything I create.
This workshop builds upon that foundation while inviting each participant to create an arrangement that reflects the places, experiences and seasons that have shaped their own life.
What You’ll Learn
Together we’ll explore:
• The principles of line, balance and movement
• The expressive power of space (ma)
• How vessel, branch and flower work together as one composition
• How to work with seasonal materials and natural movement
• How landscape, memory and personal experience inform your design
• How to create arrangements that feel thoughtful, personal and distinctly your own.
Your Experience
Each workshop is intentionally small to allow time for conversation, individual guidance and quiet observation.
You’ll create a seasonal arrangement in an unhurried atmosphere using thoughtfully selected flowers and natural materials. Rather than simply following instructions, you’ll reflect on the landscapes that have shaped your eye and allow those memories to influence your design.
There is no single correct arrangement. Only the one that is distinctly your own.
You’ll Leave With
• Your completed seasonal arrangement
• A vessel and kenzan to keep
• A printed guide for continuing your practice at home
• A deeper understanding of floral composition
• A more attentive way of seeing beauty in the everyday
